Counselor's Corner
Dear Families,
Counseling services consist of classroom guidance, support groups, individual sessions, parenting support and classroom support. I plan to visit each classroom 1-2 times each month to covering such topics as the I-Care rules, bullying prevention, body safety, careers, academic success, friendship and character education. Each lesson last approximately 30 minutes. I use a variety of methods such as games, puppets, songs, art and stories for children to grasp the content.
Group and individual sessions are provided to students on an as needed basis. Groups last 30-45 minutes and meet once per cycle for about 6-8 weeks depending on topic. I will begin groups in the beginning of 2015 based on the need of the students.
Individual sessions last between 10-20 minutes in duration depending on the nature of the subject and the need of the student. I use different modalities of therapy depending on the need of the child. Some children have an urgent matter to discuss and their problem can be solved with one visit while others may need to visit the counselor more than once. However, if your child has more intensive needs that what can be provided at school we can meet so that I can give you resources for outside referrals.
Groups and individuals are all voluntary and offered to all students. These services are provided so that your child can have the opportunity to address concerns so that they do not get in the way of their learning and achievement. If you would like counseling for your child this year please get in contact with me this year so that we can meet and discuss your concerns. I will always call if group starts or long-term counseling (more than a few sessions) starts with your child. All counseling is confidential unless it is in your child's best interest for me to disclose to the proper authorities, such as a case of abuse or endangerment. I am happy to express general impressions with you as I work with your child so that you may best help your child succeed at home and school too!
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work with your child! I look forward to seeing you soon. Feel free to call me at any time you have concern about your child's well being. I will do my best to help you and your child.
Sincerely,
Nicole Parise
